Introduction to blogging and me!

Introduction:

Wow!  I finally made my first blog!  I never thought I would see this day.  My sister-in-law is one of those people who just naturally have a gift for writing entertaining blogs that make you want to change that two year old's dirty diaper just for the possibility of having as much fun as she seems to have.  Me, on the other hand... not gifted that way.  Oh well, here goes my first blog... wish me luck!
My name is Linda Hudnall.  I married my high school sweetheart right after high school.  We were quickly blessed with two beautiful children and life filled with football, baseball, softball, soccer, and cheer soon followed.  I loved every second of it.  I was truly a gifted soccer mom so to speak.  But then, one day a few years ago as my oldest child started his senior year, the fear of empty nest syndrome kicked in.  I am a very active person and have to be on the go at all times.  I had no idea what I would do when my daughter graduated high school and started her own life.  So, after many sleepless nights and conversation after conversation with family members, I decided to take the plunge and go to college.
I mean, hey, why not?  So what if I was quickly approaching forty!  People today live well into their 90's!  I was only half way through my life.  So, I did it!  I eventually decided to enter the field of elementary education.  I always loved helping out in my children's classrooms.  I was an awesome classroom mom if I do say so myself.  I even had a stint at homeschooling when my daughter was having some medical issues with her hearing due to being a premature.  Now, here I am a few years later and learning more about the internet and technology than I ever thought I would.
As for this class.  Well, I have always loved music.  My family is very musically inclined.  We have self taught guitar players, singers, banjo players, and I have even sung in the choir and on stage before.  In fact, I won a contest for Karaoke singing Daddy's Hands.  I believe that music can be very instrumental in learning.  Teaching kids information in the form of songs aids in retention.  I have heard that studies show that playing classical music while children work or even in the womb increases intelligence.  I think it is vitally important to include it in our curriculum.  I am certain that music will be my favorite class this year.  I am looking forward to a great year.

  2. Hi Linda,

I think it is amazing that you've decided to go to college! WVSU has a long tradition of being a place for non-traditional students--I was one myself! I love that you are majoring in elementary education. I also teach MUS 105 online. You also have to have that class to graduate. You should consider taking it next semester with me if you have not already done so. Let me know if you would like more information later on this semester.

I'm glad that you have a love of music. I am a fan of karaoke myself...however I have never won any competitions! Kudos to you. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Take care and best of luck this semester!

  3. Best of luck on going back to school. I never thought I would be a college student again at my age. You are right, you are never too old.

  4. Hi Linda! I think your blog is great! Especially for doing it the first time! I also think that its great that you have decided to come back to college. I have not been out as long as you, but it is still taking me a while to get my degree finished. My husband and brother in law can both play guitar and have taught themselves how to play, but I am not as fortunate. I can play a couple chords, but that is it. Kudos to you for teaching yourself how to do that. It was nice to "meet" you and I look forward to having this class together!
